Study on Silica Aerogel Modified by Trimethylchlorosilane

Abstract The mechanical properties of SiO 2 aerogel prepared under atmospheric pressure are poor, so it is difficult to prepare large pieces materials for practical engineering. In this paper, trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) was used as a surface modifier transform hydrophilic substances with higher activity into hydrophobic groups, improve the network strength aerogel. Super-hydrophobic by sol-gel method pressure. effects on structure and were characterized specific area analyzer, Fourier infrared spectrometer, thermal conductivity meter, static contact angle scanning electron microscope. results show that when n (Si):n 1 has best performance. Its density low 0.0759 g/cm 3 , porosity high 96.5%, 723.08 m /g, 163.8°. It good properties.
